Smart irrigation technology ensures stable operation of the desert railway

The Taklimakan Desert is located in the Tarim Basin in northwest China. It is known as the "Sea of Death". It is the tenth largest desert in the world and the second largest mobile desert in the world. It covers an area of 330,000 square kilometers and is dry all year round. Water shortage, year-round strong winds, huge temperature difference between day and night... The combination of various unfavorable factors has made this desert inaccessible. However, there are extremely rich oil and natural gas treasures deep in the desert, so the country has planned the world's only desert circular railway network to cross the Taklimakan Desert, gradually turning the "Sea of Death" into a "Sea of Hope.

Among them, the preliminary construction section of the Hotan-Ruoqiang Railway broke ground on December 20, 2018, with a length of 56 kilometers.

However, after the railway is repaired, people are generally worried about how to ensure the normal operation of the railway in the desert environment all year round, because:
1. The average annual precipitation in the Taklimakan Desert does not exceed 100 millimeters, with the lowest being only four to five millimeters. The natural conditions are extremely harsh. Water for engineering, windbreak, sand fixation, and greening vegetation is a huge problem.
2. Ensuring the smooth survival of the green vegetation built to prevent desert erosion of the railway is the key to future track operation.
3. The artificial maintenance cost of the green vegetation belt in the windproof and sand-fixing belt is extremely high.

Without solving this major technical problem, the relevant companies of China Railway invited Beijing TSC Smart Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. and other companies with relevant experience and qualifications to go to the desert project site to conduct on-site inspections and field test equipment comparisons, and finally selected Lora remote communication functions. The intelligent valve control system will ensure the growth of green vegetation in the desert belt in the future. The system has been shipped since 2020 and has been running successfully for a year, providing a good model for the application of wireless smart watering technology in desert areas.

Smart Irrigation System Description

Based on the current status of the project, using high technologies such as Internet of Things technology, embedded programs, node low power consumption, Cloud platform and Lora wireless communication, a set of intelligent unmanned watering system based on "Thinking Brain" was launched. Through this system It allows administrators to achieve all-round status monitoring of the first pump room and control of irrigation valves on both sides of the railway through mobile phones, computers, LCD screens/LED large screens and other mobile devices without leaving home. It can also monitor and control Sense the damage of water pipes.

The entire system of this project consists of the head command center, the wireless control system head, smart water wells (optional), smart pump rooms (including water pump wireless control, flow and pressure monitoring), wireless valve automatic control, and water pipe pressure monitoring systems.

Hardware product introduction

Smart irrigation technology ensures stable operation of the desert railway

The first part of the wireless control system--intelligent gateway

The intelligent gateway is a patented product independently developed by TSC Smart. Its main function is to perform control operations or analyze data. It can realize remote and localized calculation and control. It is equipped with 2-4 independent collection and transmission channels, and each communication channel has 32 communications. Frequency bands are freely allocated and adjusted by users to ensure the stability of wireless communications. The wireless communication distance with underlying sensors and valves can be stabilized at 2000M-5000M. An intelligent gateway can wirelessly control up to 64 underlying devices, such as wireless sensors, wireless valves, etc. It has the following special functions: GPS positioning, local data caching, OTA remote upgrade, support for touch screen offline control, etc. For this project, four sets of smart gateways are equipped, all powered by solar energy.

Intelligent pump room

The smart pump room is equipped with wireless water pump control modules, wireless pipeline flow, wireless pipeline pressure and other wireless sensing equipment to monitor pressure, flow and other information in the pump room online in real time. At the same time, the system is equipped with a complete early warning system, which can learn abnormal information in the pump room at the first time, and promptly notify the management personnel in the form of SMS notifications, page warning message reminders, etc., to protect the normal and safe operation of the management personnel.

Wireless solenoid valve controller

The wireless solenoid valve control system is powered by solar energy, and the intelligent gateway performs wireless transmission through the Lora wireless communication protocol. At the same time, based on the collection, analysis and decision-making of soil moisture and meteorological data by the Shen Shen Brain system, the wireless electric butterfly valves in the field can automatically perform on and off irrigation control after receiving the wireless control instructions from the smart gateway, saving manpower and achieving economic efficiency. water, precision irrigation.

TSC Smart independently developed a patented product whose main function is to control DC pulse solenoid valves and is compatible with all solenoid valves on the market. At the same time, based on the collection, analysis and decision-making of soil moisture and meteorological data by the Shen Shen Brain system, the wireless electric butterfly valves in the field can automatically perform on and off irrigation control after receiving the wireless control instructions from the smart gateway, saving manpower and achieving economic efficiency. water, precision irrigation.。

System Advantages

Shanghai World Expo Urban Best Practice Area Smart Irrigation Project

1. Low installation cost: This system adopts the latest Lora wireless networking method. Star networking is used between intelligent gateways and nodes (wireless valves, wireless soil moisture sensors), and the stable wireless communication distance can reach 2000M-5000M ( All measured). If wired control is adopted, it will inevitably require a lot of trenching, casing, and buried pipe work, which will increase the difficulty of construction and increase the cost and construction period. Using Lora wireless communication, there is no need to dig trenches, bury pipes, or casing. Remote wireless irrigation can be achieved by simply equipping each irrigation area with a wireless valve controller;

2. Easy maintenance and low cost: Compared with wired control, it is extremely convenient to use Lora wireless control to troubleshoot equipment and replace equipment in the later stage. Users can accurately locate the location of the terminal equipment through a mobile phone or computer, and each valve can be Equipped with flow and pressure sensors to facilitate users to make preliminary judgments on faults. The built-in control module of Tianzheng Hi-Tech Wireless Lora Electric Butterfly Valve can monitor the power information of solar cells or lithium batteries in real time, and is equipped with a complete early warning system to send early warning information to users before the power supply system fails, allowing users to solve problems in advance without affecting Irrigation work during critical periods;

3. Strong system stability: The wireless Lora intelligent gateway has independent transmission and collection channels (2 to 4 Lora1278 channels), which can effectively avoid collisions when transmitting and receiving signals. At the same time, it has 32 different assignable frequency bands, and supports the mobile APP to modify the device frequency online, which greatly improves the system's anti-interference ability. In addition, the wireless Lora smart gateway has a built-in Xinjiang-specific IoT GPRS module, which is compatible with 4G, 3G, and 2G networks, making data transmission and control instructions more stable;

4. In the absence of 4G network, remote valve control can also be achieved through local configuration of the touch screen, which greatly solves the problem of poor signal in desert areas.

5. Save people. After one year of implementation, only 5-10 people are needed to water the construction site that originally required 50 people, which greatly alleviates the problem of scarce labor and high costs in remote areas of the desert.

6. Save water. Through precise drip irrigation technology and intelligent control technology, precious desert water resources are utilized to the extreme. Beijing TSC Smart Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. has focused on Internet of Things wireless intelligent watering for many years and has rich industry experience. All its products are self-developed and equipped with patented technologies. It is currently at the leading edge in the country. It is also cooperating with relevant national institutions to provide technical and experience support for the construction of future Sahara Desert highway green belts.
